Performance

The 2017 Hyundai Tucson is powered by one of two engines. The standard engine is a 2.0L 4-cylinder powertrain that’s rated at 164-hp and 151 lb.-ft. of torque. You’ll see up to 30 mpg/highway or 23 mpg/city when you stick with standard FWD. AWD is also available. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard.

You can upgrade the power and get the 1.6L Turbo GDI 4-cylinder engine that generates up to 175-hp and 195 lb.-ft. of torque. This powertrain will get you up to 32 mpg/highway and 26 mpg/city, and it’s mated with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Looking at the 2017 Kia Sportage, you’ll have a 2.4L 4-cylinder engine that develops 181-hp, but you’ll only see a max fuel return of 30 mpg/highway and 23 mpg/city, as there is not a more fuel efficient option. There is also no dual-clutch transmission option offered.

Interior Design and Comfort

Offering seating for five with plenty of space for cargo, the 2017 Hyundai Tucson makes itself an appealing family vehicle. When you go for the leather-trimmed cabin, you’ll have heated and ventilated front seats with power adjustments, and rear seats also offer available heating to make everyone more comfortable on winter mornings. Dual-zone automatic climate control allows both you and your front passenger to choose your own level of comfort. Behind the rear seat, you’ll have 31 cu. ft. of cargo space, or you can fold down the rear seats to reveal up to 61.9 cu. ft. of space.

While the 2017 Kia Sportage also offers seating for five, heated seats are not standard as they are on the Tucson. Still, if you upgrade the interior, heated rear seats are not an option. Dual-zone automatic climate control is also offered on this model. The cargo volume shaves off a little space, though, as there’s only 30.7 cu. ft. of space behind the second row seat or 60.1 cu. ft. behind the first row.

Technology

When it comes to tech, the new Hyundai Tucson offers the latest and greatest. Start off with your steering wheel which features controls to make and take phone calls through Bluetooth technology as well as stream audio from your smart device. A touchscreen display offers navigation with real-time traffic updates, and Proximity Key lets you use push button start.

The 2017 Kia Sportage offers similar features, but when it comes time to check out, only one vehicle offers a lower price tag that makes all of these great features more affordable. The 2017 Hyundai Tucson has an MSRP starting at $22,700, while the 2017 Kia Sportage starts at $23,200, and it only climbs from there.
