Why Are Automotive Insiders So Excited About the 2018 Hyundai Accent?
The 2018 Hyundai Accent Sedan will be bringing the model to its fifth generation, so we can expect plenty of changes across the body, interior, and technologies list. With styling cues from the Elantra, a revised four-cylinder engine beneath the hood, and several new features, the Accent is sure to become an even more formidable competitor to its subcompact rivals.
Design and Features
The design of the 2018 Hyundai Accent is certainly evocative of the larger Hyundai Elantra. From a hexagonal grille, to narrowed, wrap-around headlights and taillights, to a rounded-off trunk lid, it boasts a fantastic profile that brings styling right to the cutting-edge. You’ll also notice a score of changes made within the cabin. The infotainment system is tucked neatly into the dashboard to create a more even flow, and you’ll now be able to sink into available heated front seats. With the wheelbase widened and lengthened, you can also expect a little more room to stretch out and relax.
Performance and Efficiency
The Hyundai Accent has always been noted for its keen combination of agile driving dynamics and phenomenal efficiency scores, and the 2018 Hyundai Accent is set to extend that venerable reputation. Each model will boast a revised 1.6L direct-injection I4 gas engine. Promising to harness up to 132 hp and 119 lb-ft of torque, the engine will run its power through either a six-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission, with new internal components helping to improve efficiency by around 7%. We’re anticipating mpg ratings of 40 and above.
The new Hyundai Accent is keeping much of the technology that has made the current model so popular, but you’ll also enjoy a number of additions and upgrades, with examples including:
- Standard integrated backup camera
- Optional 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Optional autonomous emergency braking
